It can take up to a month for your website to show up in search results, and your website can rank differently depending on the search terms someone uses in a search engine. Of all the search engines, Google is the most important because it gets the most traffic on both desktop and mobile devices.
The Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Report was created to help make sure you have completed some basic steps to help your website get listed faster and higher in the rankings.
In the report, each area is marked either green or red. If an area is marked green, there is no additional action required. If an area is marked red, you should take the appropriate action and, once completed, that area will change to green.
Here are the areas the SEO Report focuses on:
1. All Images have Alt Text - Alternate text, also referred to as alt text, is the text that displays when someone is using a web browser that doesn't support images. Importantly, when a search engine like Google looks at your website, it uses the alt text to understand what your images are. Using descriptive alt text therefore can help with SEO. You can add alt text yourself by setting the Title for images added to image widgets and the gallery. If you do not set the alt text, we will auto fill the information.
2. Site Description Found - The site description is used together with the title of your website in search results. When someone does a search, it is the site description that helps them understand what the website is about so they know if they should click into the site as well. You can set this in the App Details section.
3. Google Analytics Code Missing - We recommend you add the Google Aanlytics ID in the App Details. This can sometimes speed up the time it takes Google and other search engines to index and list your website. See Adding the Google Analytics Code for more details.
4. Consider using a custom domain - To improve your SEO we recommend you use a custom domain, rather then using the moblwebapp default domain. The custom domain provides an important source of keywords that people can search for.
5. Consider Linking to a Google Plus Page - Google has preferential treatment in search results for websites that are linked to a Google Plus page. Search results are even better once a business has positive reviews on their Google Plas page. You can link to a Google Plus page by creating a social media link. Learn more here: Social Media Links
6. Robots.txt Found - Robots.txt is a file that is used to help search engines crawl and index your site. There is nothing you need to do here, as we are creating and hosting this file for you.
7. Site Map Found - All sites have an XML site map for better search indexing. A sitemap is a file that lists the web pages of your site to tell Google and other search engines about the organization of your site content. There is nothing you need to do here, as we are creating and hosting this file for you.
8. Google Mobile Friendly - This test lets you know whether the site you created passed the Google Mobile Friendly Test
9. Search Listing preview - This displays the way that your listing may appear when searched by Google. You can change the title of your app, domain, and site description to change how your website may show up in search results.
